ABDEL AL MALEK ALNASHEF Biography:
He was born in TAIBE in the area of Tolkarem in Palestine, the
first of October, 1922. His mother's name was Badriya Al
Mikdadi, and his father's name was Darwish Al Nashef; he had
three sisters and four brothers. He studied the elementary
level in the Fadiliah School in Tolkarem and the secondary
level in The Arab College in Jerusalem where he received three
Certificates. After he graduated, he worked as a teacher at
the Arab College in Jerusalem. In England, he attended Exeter
University where he read Classics specializing in philosophy,
ancient Greek and Latin. He later received his MA in Classical
Philosophy from the University of London.
He married Hala Adli Bitar from Nablus. She was a lecturer of
Arabic at the University of Jordan. She also writes and has
published a novella, and two collections of short stories. She
also prepared educational broadcasting material and radio
programs. Descendants of ABDEL AL MALEK AL NASHEF: Samer, a
cardio-thorasic surgeon, Lina a neurologist, Hania, a master
degree holder in English literature, and Rima who studied a
secretarial course in England.
JOBS AND POSITIONS HE Held:
He began his career life as a teacher in Al Rashidiya
College then the Arab College in Jerusalem until the end of
British mandate in Palestine. After 1948, and after his
graduation from the UK, he joined the English language section
at the Syrian Radio Station, the first Palestinian employee in
the Syrian government. He later worked as a headmaster of Al
Shuwaikh School, then only secondary school in Kuwait. He has
also worked in Baghdad as a schoolteacher. When he got
married, he moved to Amman where he taught. He later joined
UNESCO where he was seconded to UNRWA to direct the Institute
of Education. He passed away on September 11th ,
1983 in Amman.
HIS MOOD AND CHARACTER: From what we know of him, we could say
that he was a really quiet and gentle man, a philosopher by
nature. His character also revealed a kind of sarcasm that was
hardly detected by others. Only those close to him could
understand it. Throughout his career, he worked hard, forever
trying to attain perfection, an honest man believing in
justice for all.
ABDEL ALMALEK ALNASHEF was open-minded with a global and
philosophical outlook at the world. He mastered six languages,
Arabic, Ancient Greek, English, French, German and Latin. His
wife says that Abdel Malek had never visited any country
without visiting its universities and libraries.
